Before They Pass Away by Jimmy Nelson

For starters he is living every Nature & Portrait photographers dream. It's a not to be missed series which follows Jimmy Nelson around the world to exotic locations photographing exotic tribes, it's more special because some of the tribes might not be around in a few years from now.

Here is a video just to give you an idea of what it's all about, and yes he shot all of this on a 4x5.

You may also check the entire project on the website here.

In case you are sold, don't forget to check out the book Before They Pass Away

Nikon Df. Is it worth buying?

Long story short, is it worth buying? Oh yes absolutely!!

The fact that you are getting the D4 sensor at half the cost is reason enough to get this beautiful beast. On top of that it has a timeless retro design which will take you back in time when Nikon F series SLR's were the best bang for you buck.
I was teleported back in time as soon as I saw this, having grown up in photography using the likes of Nikon FM10, FM3A, F80, F3 I simply could not stop the nostalgia kicking in.
It has all the controls you will ever need right at your fingertips along with a cable release built right into the shutter release button. And like all of Nikon pro gear it is weather sealed!!
And to top it all, Nikon Df will work with even the oldest of you Nikkor glass.

Will I be buying it? Considering I have just acquired a D800 it is difficult for me to justify the purchase. Moreover I have been shooting a few video assignments with the D800 lately and the Df does not have any video function whatsoever. The only form of video it can do is time lapse i.e. if you consider it a video.
For some having no video might be a deal breaker but if video is not that important to you go ahead and buy it eyes closed, you will not be disappointed.

Personally I'm still waiting for Nikon to come up with something like a Fuji x100s which is much more pocketable than the Df.  And while you are at it Nikon please give us a Flash sync speed of 1/500 at least, 1/250 is like going cheap on a not so cheap camera.

In case I have somehow convinced you to buy the mighty Nikon Df please follow the Amazon link below:

Let me know what you think about the Nikon Df in the comments section,

Kata Bumblebee PL-220 Camera Backpack Review

We photographers are a crazy lot, first we buy super expensive gear and then we get into this endless loop of buying other necessities and accessories. On top of the necessities list is a camera bag which can safely hold our precious gear from accidents and natural elements.

I have been using the Kata Bumblebee PL-220 for almost 3 years now and I thought its about time that I pen down my experience with this camera bag.

As I won't be going into all the features of the bag you can find them here:

I primarily bought it for hiking and this was one of the bags which comes under the Pro-Light series.
The bag itself is around 3kgs which is pretty light for the kind of protection you get with this bag. Apart from the light weight what got me hooked to this bag was the design and the Gecko straps. The back of the bag actually looks pretty neat and the overall quality and construction gives a feel of a well engineered bag.

Chasing Ice

Sometimes you see something and you feel like being part of it. The landscape of Earth is changing as we speak and there are few brave souls out there who are trying to get the worlds attention towards it.
James Balog is one such guy, hats off to him and his crew to make this happen.

I'm so going to watch this as soon as I get my hands on it.

Welcome home Ojasvi

One of the biggest perks of being born as a photographers child is that you get your childhood visually documented with some awesome images. I hope my daughter will appreciate the effort of her dad.
This was my first shot at child photography and i'm hoping that I will grow accustomed and better at shooting kids as I have my in house model to practice and further hone my child photography skills.
Have a look at the first photo session I had with Ojasvi.

One flew over the sparrow's nest.

It was almost a year back when we had those bird houses made and to our dismay there was no taker for the houses for almost an year. Suddenly there was a flurry of activity and before we knew it a pair of sparrows had taken up the house.
They filled the bird house with twigs and while we pretended to ignore their activity the sparrows had three cute little babies. From then on the whole day all they wanted was food...parents did their best and one fine day all of them flew away!!
The sparrows still sit their...looks like they are waiting for them to come back.
I feel sad and happy at the same time. I guess thats life!!

Holi, the Indian festival of colors captured in high speed action!! I'm just wondering when will we be able to capture something like this on our DSLR's.
